Our job for this project was to design a ‘save the date’ and invitation for a new Wings for Life event coming up named ‘Mikey’s Mountain Miles’ hosted by Mike Tindell MBE - an event that saw those taking part enjoy 5 days at the famous Skicircus Sallbach, Austria where they will be challenged to cover as much terrain as they dare. The guests would be put up in 5-star accommodation and have food and drink included for the duration of the trip, with all proceeds going to support Wings for Life and the Matt Hampson foundation.
The brief for this job was fairly open with only a few design directions given from the Red Bull team. Originally, one of the directions given was to incorporate a circus theme into the design in order to reflect the name given to the resort, the Skicircus. After bringing the circus style design aspects through in my concept stage, it became clear that the idea felt somewhat jarring against the other directions to focus on - the Astrain alps and Mike Tindell. We felt there would be too much going on and still wanted to reflect a somewhat serious event feel through the design. The circus route felt too childish in the comparison to the tone of the event.
After drafting up 3 concepts, Red Bull chose to go with the concept you see above and the refining process began. The main issue we encountered was figuring out how best to fit the copy in that was requested, but we made it work in the end.
